Rebecca Erker, PhD(c)

University of Saskatchewan (Saskatchewan)
I am a registered nurse with a background working primarily in the emergency department and intensive care unit in Saskatoon, and have been working as a sessional clinical nursing instructor for the past 4 years. I completed my Master of Nursing degree in 2018 and am currently a doctoral student in the Health Sciences program at the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine. My research interests include health literacy, patient engagement, self-management of chronic disease, and patient-oriented research. My dissertation research project involves assessing health literacy needs of patients with COPD, as well as the associations between health literacy and quality of life in this same population. Outside of academia I enjoy volunteering with community organizations close to our family, and am always on the go keeping up with our young children. I am excited to be a part of this program and getting to know everyone in this group!
